Bridging The Gap is a research proposal aiming to increase engagement in prospective design high school students from low socio-economic status backgrounds. The research proposal contains primary and secondary research and key findings that influenced the final design outcome – an online free design project and brief titled "The Paper Plane Project".
The Paper Plane Project is an online design brief, based on a real-world university design brief, aimed at encouraging prospective design students currently in low socio-economic high schools. The project can be done with pen and paper, or design software (if available), and can be followed through an online video and on-screen instructions on the website. The aim of the website is to bridge the gap between lower and higher socio-economic status design students through encouragement and accessibility of design briefs such as this one.
